What are the pre-requisites for Ki-Washer?
Following softwares need to be pre-installed on your computer before
Ki-Washer is installed.
- Microsoft .NET framework, freely available from
Microsoft web site.
- Microsoft Installer 2.0, freely available from
Microsoft web site.
- Microsoft Internet Explorer 5.0 or higher, freely available from
Microsoft web site.

What browsers does Ki-Washer support?
Currently, Ki-Washer
supports only Internet Explorer. It might be extended to other browsers in
future.

How do I install Ki-Washer?
Ki-Washer is freely
downloadable from our site. Make sure that your computer meets all
pre-requisites. To download the product, click
here.
Save the downloaded file "ki-washer.msi" to a convenient location
on your computer and double-click on the file. This will bring up a
welcome page and guide you through the rest of the installation.

How do I use Ki-Washer?
Once successfully
installed, launch Ki-Washer. There are two wash options namely "Basic"
and "Custom". You can select the required wash item in each option by
ticking against the item. Ki-Washer is pre-loaded with a number of "Custom"
items. This list can be extended, to include more applications by creating new
"Custom" items yourself or by downloading them from
here. Check the folder and registry entries they point to, for
correctness before including them. Once finished, click the "Apply" button
to confirm your selection. You can click the "Run" button to run Ki-Washer
immediately. You can also schedule it to run when windows starts.

What is "Document History" wash item in "Basic" tab?
When you open files, Windows store
their short-cut in "Recent Documents".
Selecting this option will remove all these short-cuts when Ki-Washer is run
from next time onwards.

What is "Internet Explorer Cookies" wash item in "Basic" tab?
When you browse the internet,
the websites you visit, store user specific information in your computer
as cookies. This information could be your userid, password, credit card
information etc.
Selecting this option will remove all these Cookies when Ki-Washer is run
from next time onwards.

Can I exclude certain cookies from being washed?
Yes you can.
Clicking the "Keep" button, beside the item will list all the cookies
available on your computer in "All Cookies" list. Either double-click
on the cookie you want to exclude or highlight the required cookie and
click on the appropriate arrow to move it to the "Excluded Cookies" list,
below. You can remove the items from the "Excluded Cookies" list by
either double-clicking on the item or by highlighting the cookie and
clicking on appropriate arrow.

What is "Internet Explorer Temporary Internet Files" wash item in "Basic" tab?
When you browse the
internet, image and data from the web sites you visit, get downloaded onto
the "Temporary Internet Files" folder of your computer.
Selecting this option will remove all these Temporary Internet Files when Ki-Washer is run
from next time onwards.

What is "Internet Explorer Auto Complete" wash item in "Basic" tab?
Internet Explorer stores the
URLs of recently visited web sites in the registry. They are dispalyed
in the drop-down list of the browser's address bar.
Selecting this option will remove all these URLs when Ki-Washer is run
from next time onwards.

What is "Recycle Bin" wash item in "Basic" tab?
Selecting this option will
remove all the items from the "Recycle Bin" of your computer.

What is "Windows Run History" wash item in "Basic" tab?
When you execute any
commands in "Start->Run" option, Windows stores these commands in the
registry for subsequently displaying them in the "Run" drop-down list. These items
are shown in the list when you go to "Run" option again.
Selecting this option will remove all these registry entries when Ki-Washer is run
from next time onwards.Though these
items are removed from the registry after wash, you need to reboot the machine to remove
it from the drop down box. Alternatively run the application on Windows start up.
This will clear both registry and the drop down list.

What is "Windows Temp Files" wash item in "Basic" tab?
A number of applications
including Windows write a lot of information into the "Temp" folder
under "Windows" folder or under the "Local Settings" folder of your computer.
Selecting this option will remove all these Temp Files when Ki-Washer is run
from next time onwards.

How do I manipulate "Files/Folders" under a "Custom" wash item?
Highlight the required
item from the "Custom" tab, that you want to edit. This will enable the
"Edit" button. Click on it to go to the details page. For security reasons, folders with
system attributes will not be allowed to be included in the list.
- Select "Files/Folders" to display a list of file and folder paths saved
under the selected item.
- To add a new file/folder
- Click on "Add" button.This will bring up a new page.
- Type a valid file/folder path or choose one by clicking on the
"Browse" button.
- Click "OK" button to confirm the addition.
- To edit an existing file/folder
- Highlight the file/folder to edit. This will enable the "Edit" button.
- Click on "Edit" button.This will bring up a new page with the
existing file/folder path.
- Type the new file/folder path or choose one by clicking on the
"Browse" button.
- Click "OK" button to confirm the editing.
- To delete an existing file/folder
- Highlight the file/folder to delete. This will enable the "Delete" button.
- Click on "Delete" button.
- Click "OK" button to confirm deletion.
To include a "Custom" wash item in wash, put a tick against that item.
If included, all files and sub-folders under the folder paths under that
item, will be deleted when Ki-Washer is run from next time onwards.

How do I manipulate "Registry Entries" under a "Custom" wash item?
Highlight the required
item from the "Custom" tab, that you want to edit. This will enable the
"Edit" button. Click on it to go to the details page.
- Select "Registry Entries" to display a list of registry entries
saved under the selected item.
- To add a new registry entry
- Click on "Add" button.This will bring up a new page.
- Select appropriate hive of the registry.
- Type the path of sub key to add.
- To delete all entries under a sub key add a "*" after the sub key
- To delete a specific string value, enter the sub key and the
string id
- Click "OK" button to confirm the addition.
For E.g. To add all values under the registry key
"HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Nico Mak Computing\WinZip\filemenu"
- Click on "Add" button.This will bring up a new page.
- Select "HKEY_CURRENT_USER". hive
- Type in "Software\Nico Mak Computing\WinZip\filemenu\*" in the value field.
- Click "OK" button to confirm the addition.
For E.g. To add a value (DefDir) under the registry key
"HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Nico Mak Computing\WinZip\directories"
- Click on "Add" button.This will bring up a new page.
- Select "HKEY_CURRENT_USER". hive
- Type in "Software\Nico Mak Computing\WinZip\directories\DefDir" in the value field.
- Click "OK" button to confirm the addition.
- To edit an registry entry
- Highlight the entry to edit. This will enable the "Edit" button.
- Click on "Edit" button.This will bring up a new page with the
existing entry.
- Type the new registry entry.
- Click "OK" button to confirm the editing.
- To delete an existing registry entry
- Highlight the entry to delete. This will enable the "Delete" button.
- Click on "Delete" button.
- Click "OK" button to confirm deletion.
To include a "Custom" wash item in wash, put a tick against that item.
If included, the selected string entry or all string values under the
sub key will be deleted, when Ki-Washer is run from next time onwards.

How do I delete a "Custom" wash item?
Select the "Custom" tab and
highlight the item that you want to delete. This will enable the "Delete"
button. Click on it to delete the selected item.

How can I include new applications in "Custom" wash items?
You can visit our web site
and download the plug-in for required application. If you can't find the
plug-in on our site, you can either create it yourself, by clicking on "Create"
button or request us for the same.

When I run Ki-Washer by clicking the "Run" button, it does not wash today's
history. Why?
You have to schedule
Ki-Washer to wash on windows start up for today's history to be washed.

How can I uninstall Ki-Washer?

Launch Ki-Washer and check whether you have selected "Wash on Startup" option.
If you have selected it,
- Unselect it, apply the change by clicking on "Apply" button.
- Restart Windows.
If you have not selected it, proceed with step 2.
- Go to "Control Panel" in Windows.
- Choose "Add or Remove Programs".
- Highlight "Ki-Washer" in the list of programs and click on "Remove".
